Our Approach to Responsible Footwear

Fewer, better products. Made with purpose.

At Liam Fahy London, we believe luxury should be defined by considered design, exceptional craftsmanship and products made to last, not by the volume of products sold.

As an independent British footwear brand, we produce in limited quantities and take a considered approach to what we make. We do not believe in producing footwear simply to pursue growth or feed unnecessary consumption. We make products when we believe they have a reason to exist.

Our approach to responsibility is reflected in how we design, where we manufacture, the materials we choose and the people and communities connected to our work.

01. Considered Production

Making less, by design.

We deliberately produce in limited quantities. Rather than continually increasing output, we focus on distinctive design, considered product development and the enduring appeal of well-made footwear.

We believe that making fewer, better products is a more responsible approach to luxury. By being selective about what we create, we aim to avoid unnecessary production and the waste associated with excess inventory.

Our collections are developed with longevity in mind, favouring considered proportions, quality materials and craftsmanship over disposable trends.

02. Responsible Manufacturing

Made in Italy, with a local supply chain.

All Liam Fahy London footwear is manufactured in the Fiesso d'Artico area, just outside Padua in Northern Italy. This is a region with a long-standing tradition of specialist footwear manufacturing.

Working with established Italian factories allows us to develop our footwear within a specialist production environment and maintain close relationships with the people involved in bringing each design to life.

Our manufacturing partners operate within the European Union's regulatory framework for employment and worker protection. We value responsible working practices, skilled craftsmanship and the experience of the people who make our products.

We also source our footwear components within approximately five miles of our manufacturing base. Keeping sourcing close to production supports the local manufacturing network and helps reduce the distances travelled by components before assembly.

This local approach is an important part of how we think about responsible production. However, we recognise that the full environmental impact of a product extends beyond transport distance alone.

03. Materials & Animal Welfare

Considered choices, with clear boundaries.

Material selection is an important part of responsible footwear design. We consider not only the appearance and performance of a material, but also its origin and the implications of using it.

Since 2013, Liam Fahy London has stopped producing footwear using exotic animal skins. Our manufacturing partners operate in accordance with applicable CITES requirements, the international framework governing trade in endangered species and certain products derived from them.

We recognise that animal welfare and biodiversity are wider issues than the use of exotic skins alone. Leather and other animal-derived materials can also carry environmental and animal-welfare implications, and we do not claim that all our materials are impact-free.

Our aim is to make considered material choices while continuing to develop footwear around craftsmanship, quality and longevity.

04. Packaging & Waste

Less unnecessary packaging.

We aim to avoid unnecessary packaging and use packaging designed to be recyclable wherever possible, with minimal plastic.

Every purchase also includes a dust bag made by the Shingirirai Trust in Zimbabwe. This brings together a practical part of our product presentation with support for a community-based organisation.

We continue to consider how packaging can be made more resource-efficient without compromising the protection of the footwear during storage and delivery.

05. People & Community

A small contribution with a meaningful purpose.

Our dust bags are produced by the Shingirirai Trust, a Zimbabwean organisation that empowers women living with HIV and supports an orphanage for children whose lives have been affected by HIV.

By working with the Trust, we connect an element of our product packaging to an organisation whose work supports women and vulnerable children.

We believe responsible business extends beyond the immediate production of a product. It also includes recognising the people and communities who contribute to our work, and seeking relationships that create value beyond the transaction itself.

06. Design for a Better Future

Responsibility begins at the design stage.

Through Studio Fahy, our footwear design and consultancy practice, we work with fashion brands on product strategy, design development and the transition towards more considered collections.

We encourage brands to question what needs to be made, why it needs to be made and how design decisions can support better products with less unnecessary output.

For us, responsible design is not simply about introducing a more sustainable material. It means considering the entire product: its purpose, construction, sourcing, durability and place within a collection.

We believe the industry can make meaningful progress by creating fewer products, developing them more thoughtfully and placing greater value on craftsmanship and longevity.

An Ongoing Commitment

We do not consider responsibility a finished exercise or claim that every aspect of our business is without environmental or social impact.

Footwear production involves complex supply chains, material choices and resource use. We believe progress begins with understanding those impacts, being transparent about our current practices and continually questioning how things can be done better.

Our commitment is to remain selective in what we make, thoughtful in how we make it and conscious of the people, animals and environments connected to our work.
